Taxi
Taxi service is available from the condo to anywhere you want to go. The front desk staff or security guard will arrange for one to pick you up if there is none currently waiting in the parking area. Fares vary depending on your destination. The established routes (e.g. from Mismaloya to Old Town) are usually not negotiable; however, if you do not know the standard fare, you may be charged a higher than normal amount by an unscrupulous taxi driver. The condo receptionist maintains a list of some current destinations/fares. Be sure to discuss and agree on the fare with your driver before leaving in the taxi. Hiring a taxi for longer trips or including asking a driver to wait while you shop can be negotiable, and you should agree on the fare before starting the trip. Tips are not necessary or expected. However, many tourists do give taxi drivers tips, so the practice is becoming more common. Many taxi drivers seem to drive faster than might be expected on the road from Mismaloya to Puerto Vallarta, and to follow very close to cars/buses in front of them. A small tip (e.g. 20 pesos) with a request to drive more slowly ("Más lento por favor") or not so close ("No tan cerca por favor") usually works. Of course, you can make the same requests without offering a tip, and your request should be respected.
CURRENT FARES:
From the condos to Old Town, Puerto Vallarta: 180 pesos (about $9).
From the condos to the Airport: 350 pesos (about $17.5).
Bus
There is a bus stop directly across from the main entrance to the condos that will take you into Puerto Vallarta. The “Orange & White” buses run from Old Town, Puerto Vallarta south to Boca de Tomatlán. In Old Town, the bus stop is near the Oxxo on Basilio Badillo and Constitución. The fare is 10 pesos (about 50 cents). The first bus into town is between 6:30am and 7am. The buses run constantly between Puerto Vallarta and Boca all day, seven days a week. The wait time varies, but is usually at most about 20 minutes. Be sure to 'flag' the driver so he knows to stop for you. The last bus from downtown to Mismaloya leaves between 10:30pm and 11pm from the same bus stop near the Oxxo on Basillio Badillo and Constitución.
Water taxis
Water taxis to Yelapa are available from Boca de Tomatlán.
Ask the front desk staff or other owners/guests how to use the Water Taxi service from Boca, or search online for information.
Private Car Service
Many taxi drivers will hire out on a per hour or day rate. Ask your driver for his availability and rates. The front desk staff may also be able to assist you finding a private car service option.
Car rental
Several international and local car rental companies offer rentals with pickup/drop off at the airport or in town. Rates are generally low ($5-7 per day) but insurance can be high. Be sure to thoroughly understand the rental policy and costs. For more information, ask the front desk staff, owners who are currently renting cars, or find information online.
